About the 48 Hour Film Festival
Are you passionate about film and the creation of video content? Then you are most welcome at our 48 Hour Film Festival in Munich. Not only will you make a unique short film in one weekend, but you’ll also get to meet other filmmakers and creatives in Munich (and have a lot of fun doing it)!
The 48 Hour Film Festival takes place from Friday, May 23rd at 7pm until Sunday, May 25th at 7pm. This is the official time period – your film must be completed and submitted by Sunday at 7pm at the latest. The finished works will be shown on Sunday, May 25 at 7 p.m. in the Köşk.
What is the procedure?
On Friday, May 23 at 7pm, we will announce two randomly selected genres and a mandatory prop that must appear in each film.
Immediately afterwards you can start writing and planning. Please bring your own equipment – nothing will be provided. Any camera is allowed. The focus is on fun and collaboration. To enter the contest, you must submit your film no later than Sunday, May 25 at 7pm.
Although there is no fixed length limit, it is still advisable to keep the audience’s attention span in mind :-). Most films are on average about 5 minutes long. Films can be shot in any language as long as English or German subtitles are available.
How do I find a team?
You can put your team together before the competition starts. A group of 4-6 people who write, plan, shoot and edit together is ideal.
You can find crew members, receive updates and exchange ideas with other participants via the 48 Hour Film Festival WhatsApp group.
The group is also a place to share ideas and support each other during the project.
You will be shooting on your own, so it makes sense to decide on a common meeting point in advance. You should also think about possible filming locations that are easily accessible in advance – this will make planning easier once the genre and props have been announced.
Why only teams of 4-6 people?
The maximum team size is 6 people, including actors. The idea behind this: Everyone should actively participate, take on several tasks and perhaps even try out new roles. This gives everyone the chance to gain practical experience and contribute to the creative process.
Is there a participation fee?
No, participation is free of charge and open to anyone who wants to have fun and exchange creative ideas – you don’t have to be from the film industry. There is no cash prize, instead the top 3 films will be voted on collectively.
